Welcome to Elm Class - Year 3 & 4
Elm Class is taught by Mrs Coopey
Elm Class made moving dragons in their Design and Technology lessons; they used a pneumatic system so that the dragon could open and close its mouth! These are fabulous! Well done, Elm Class.
We had a really big surprise when Santa and his Elf made a special visit. Santa read out his 'good' list and he left us presents, we found them in a special sack in our classroom!
What a wonderful Festive time in school....class parties, a Polar Express Day, PTA Activity Afternoon, outdoor Carol singing and a Christmas jumper day! Wow!
Christmas lunch is always a highlight of the year - yummy food, pulling crackers, wearing party hats and listening to festive music. Merry Christmas everyone!
In science the class have been investigating reflective materials.
Elm class enjoyed drawing and shading their own dragons.
Elm Class have been learning all about pollution and made some very creative posters. It inspired a group of boys to go litter picking in the village after school. Well done boys.
To launch their new topic about Vikings the Class spent a day at Moorforge Viking settlement, near Wigton. They heard stories about Vikings and used their best acting skills to act out some Viking activities. They also enjoyed playing some viking games.
Elm Class enjoyed their second visit to Stockswood at the beginning of November. On approaching the woods they found an old warning sign about 'colour dragons'. They managed to find 8 of them and a dragon's egg! Homes were made for their dragons, dragon's breath was used to light fires and the dragon's keys were stealthily taken. There was also lots of forest school fun and games. Well done everyone!
On the 11th November we held an outdoor Remembrance Service - the children placed their Poppy pebbles on the school playground and listened to poems read by staff and pupils. Then Mr Stalker played 'The Last Post' and everyone stood very still and quiet for two minutes as a mark of respect for soldier who have fought and died in conflict. "We will remember them"
The class enjoyed using their imagination to write poetry and then draw pictures.
Spring Term 2020 - Swimming
Spring Term 2020
Elm Class are keeping up the musical theme as this term, they are taking part in singing sessions with Ed from Carlisle Cathedral. They are learning Disney songs and will perform these as part of a schools’ choir at Carlisle Cathedral on Thursday 19h March. They visited Tullie House to take part in ‘Egyptians Week’ and loved getting hands on with Egyptian artefacts, creating artwork and taking part in the ancient ‘death rituals’. This has inspired some character description writing, using the various Egyptian Gods as stimuli.
Autumn Term 2019
Elm Class (Year 3 and 4) have been learning about different teeth and used modelling icing to make the different types of teeth we have in our gums. This was lots of fun and helped children remember the correct names. They visited Stocks Wood Forest School to learn about life in the forest and woodcraft. The children’s art gallery of portrait pictures was well attended and much of the art work was ‘sold’! The money raised has been put towards buying some new wet break time games. In RE they have been learning about different cultures and festivals of light.
All the KS2 children (Year 3-6) took part in a visiting Tullie House workshop about Remembrance Day, working with an actor in role, ‘Poppy’ to learn more about what life was like then.
The children from Elm class went for a 'Dragon Walk' and placed posters around the village. Please see the photographs below.
