Ash

Welcome to Ash Class - Year 1 & 2

Ash Class is taught by Mrs Wiedman (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning) and Miss Taylor (Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday)

Autumn Term 2020
Ash Class enjoyed a visit from Silverband Falconry with lots of amazing owls.  The children enjoyed learning about the owls, drawing them and getting close up to observe their beaks and feathers.
On the 11th November we held an outdoor Remembrance Service - the children placed their Poppy pebbles on the school playground and listened to poems read by staff and pupils.  Then Mr Stalker played 'The Last Post' and everyone stood very still and quiet for two minutes as a mark of respect for soldier who have fought and died in conflict.  "We will remember them"
Ash Class enjoyed their second visit this year to Stocks Wood Forest School. This time the Reception children from Acorn Class went along for the day they all had a fantastic time working and playing together in the outdoors.  Lots of great team working and exploring around the woods.
Ash Class enjoyed making some sound firework poems using the musical instruments, making chalk firework pictures indoors and outdoors and writing firework shape poems.
There were some very spooky goings on in Ash Class before half term....

The children have enjoyed writing instructions for Paddington Bear to help him make a marmalade sandwich.  They have also worked hard on their observational drawings in art.

A spring time walk to lift our spirits - March 2020

Spring Term 2020 - Carlisle Music Festival

Spring Term 2020

Acorn and Ash Classes (N-Year 2) had a super day out visiting Wigton Fire Station. They learned about the role of firefighters and the equipment they use, as well as learning more about fire prevention and safety. They have been learning about the events surrounding the Great Fire of London and how these were recorded in Samuel Pepys’ diary. This has included ordering the events in chronological order, comparing and contrasting firefighters now and in the past plus writing in first person as Samuel Pepys.  In art, they designed their own Tudor/ Stuart houses and looked at the structure and lines of the old houses.  Then in DT they made ther own 'Great Fire of London' 3D scene by using boxes and paper.  They have read books of Julia Donaldson, with ‘Superworm’ being a firm favourite. They created their own job for Superworm.

In RE they have been thinking about 'Special Places,' they visited St Bride's Church in the village to learn about the history of the Church and to think about why it is a very special place in Kirkbride.

They have been working hard on their singing skills with Mrs Wiedman and are preparing their performance of action songs and rhymes to take part in Carlisle Music Festival on Tuesday 10th March 2020

Autumn Term 2019

Ash Class (Year 1 and 2) have embraced the time of year by writing Autumn poems and learning Bonfire Night songs. They have been thinking forward to the spring and helped to plant spring bulbs in the community garden with some of the older children in school. They are enjoying their new class book ‘Traction Man’ by Mini Grey and their topic of ‘Toys and Games’. The children brought in their own dolls and action figures from home and wrote character descriptions of them and drew their own pictures. They thoroughly enjoyed a visit to Carlisle United to learn all about Teamwork and to take part in a special PE lesson in the Neil Sports Centre.  They also had a short tour of the ground and even sat in the Directors’ Box!
