March / April News
Elm Class started their new topic of ‘Chocolate’ this week with an exciting adventure around the village! They used OS maps to locate clues set up around the village and then pieced these together to work out the theme of their new class book. Understanding map key symbols and directional language helped them to do this. This is a topic that the children have chosen themselves and have said that they would like to learn more about how chocolate is made and visit a chocolate factory...their wish, is our command! We are planning a visit to The Cocoa Bean Factory in Dumfries for after Easter!
In maths, we have been learning about measurement, area and perimeter and continue to make great progress with learning our times tables off by heart. In science, the children have been visited by a dental nurse who talked to them about the different types of teeth and their purposes and how we should care for our teeth.
The children have enjoyed investigated the impact that different drinks can have on our teeth and have been surprised to see the impact of orange juice! Elm will be enjoying the coaching of Tennis this term. Some of our year 3 and 4 children will represent our school at a ‘Tennis’ tournament in March: results to follow. They have also enjoyed their block of swimming lessons and have all progressed well in their swimming skills and water safety.
Welcome to Elm!
The children from Elm class went for a 'Dragon Walk' and placed posters around the village. Please see the photographs below.
