Welcome to Elm!
In Elm Class this half term, we have continued to enjoy our science learning about the human body. We focussed on the digestive system after our amazing trip to ‘The Centre for Life’ in Newcastle. We wrote very detailed reports about the parts of the digestive system and their purpose-chewing, digesting or excreting!
Over the festive period, we have applied these skills to write our own reports about Christmas. In Maths, we have been learning to multiply and divide using mental and written methods. Counting in multiples has helped us to do this so practising counting in 4s, 6s and 8s over the holidays would be very helpful! Our 4-mile ‘Water Walk’ to raise money for Water Aid was superb - we raised a massive £112.50 through sponsorship: enough to sponsor at least 7 children to have access to clean water for life. This concluded our learning about the symbolism of water in Christianity.
In our Europe topic learning we worked brilliantly as a team to piece together a giant map of all the European countries. It was much trickier than it sounds! We used our atlas and map skills to label, create flags and add in human and physical landscape features.
